Welcome to the Defending Indigenous Rights website.

This site is intended as a resource for groups and individuals around Australia campaigning against the Northern Territory Intervention.

The Intervention into Aboriginal communities in the NT was introduced by the former Coalition government in June 2007. It has continued – and in many  cases been extended – under the federal Labor governments.

In response to large numbers of Aboriginal people affected by the laws declaring it racist, unwelcome and harmful, campaigning groups around the country sprang up, working in solidarity with the NT communities and building a movement to demand the government fully repeal the intervention laws.

For more information about the NT intervention and the campaign against it, visit one of the links provided.

This website will help groups around the country, as well as communities and individuals, share information about upcoming campaign events, poster designs, fundraising appeals and other resources.

We encourage groups who are involved in organising meetings, rallies, film screenings, information sessions, petition campaigns… or anything else as part  of the campaign to  share your information here. To find out how, contact your local (or nearby) campaign group- see ‘contacts’ page for details.

If you want to get involved with this campaign, and there’s not yet a campaign group in your city, you can still advertise events on this site, or if you want to set up a new group, we can advertise contact details for you.

Please feel free to use any material you find on this  website.
